Can accommodation costs be charged as an expense?

Question

I have query that does not seem to be answered in P.L.P.T. 2008. I have several properties that involve a round trip of over 300 miles to visit. Is it possible to charge as an expense basic accommodation costs when staying overnight for the purpose of the properties?

James says

In principle, you can get a deduction for travel and subsistence when visiting your properties, but you will need to show this was the SOLE purpose of your journey.
